Mercury moves into Scorpio

This period of Mercury in Scorpio will be quite the Cha Cha! He first dashes into Scorpio, but then turns retrograde on October 14, just before the New Moon. He slides all the way back and re-enters Libra just before the Full Moon in Taurus but turns direct a few days later – on the day of the US election. Mercury will then stay in Scorpio for the rest of November.

So, we can expect Mercury in Scorpio to cause plenty of havoc in the sphere of communication for almost 2 months and especially during its retrograde period! This should be interesting as well as fitting with regard to the current political climate.

Mercury in Scorpio is not exactly chatty and what isn’t being said is usually much more interesting and important than what IS being said. Mercury here plays his cards below the table. Think about a poker table in Las Vegas and you get the idea. Compromise is an alien concept. He is also not above lying or denial either if it serves his ulterior purpose.

This is the darkest side of Mercury in Scorpio, most likely to manifest in the public sphere. Of course, there is also the other end of the spectrum – the eagle eye that you can’t get anything by, the detective or investigator who combs through every shred of possible evidence. A laser-focused mind, the famous X-ray vision, the bs-detection antenna…

In the realm of everyday interaction, Mercury in Scorpio mostly suggests intensity. Stuff that has been smoldering below the surface may rise to the surface, especially while Mercury is retrograde. It is a good idea to do some soul searching and figure out what you really want so you can confront such situations with integrity and honesty.

Mercury retrograde

During its retro periods, Mercury famously throws spanners into the wheels – as if we needed any more obstructions. Whether intentional or accidental, expect delays, inconvenience, having to wait longer than expected for something you might urgently need, backed-up workflow, lost items, strikes, and the like are common occurrences. (Note to self: back up the computer before October 14)

The best way to make the most of Mercury retro is to go with the flow. Catch up with stuff that is piling up on your desk and try not to make any important commitments or deals.

Self-Presentation, Persona (1. House)

When Mercury transits a Scorpio I. House, expect a sizzle in the air. Mercury in Scorpio has the ‘eagle eye’ – nothing escapes his attention. Yet, he does not give much away. A typical poker face, when it comes to human interaction. And yet, so enigmatic! Be careful with your words if you don’t want to offend people around you.

Money, Values (2. House)

Mercury moving through a Scorpio II. House is highly aware of value exchanges and makes sure he is not short-changed. At a deeper level, it is a good transit to reflect on inner values as a compass for decisions and the balance of ‘give and take’ in your life.

Friends and Kin, Mental Processing (3. House)

Mercury in the III. House is usually a communicative chap. However, in Scorpio, he is not the ‘bubbly kind’.  This is a good transit to go on a silent retreat. Or, to immerse yourself deeply in some form of mental exercise or study. Mercury in the III. House does not need a lot of people around, just a few, really good friends.

Home and Family (4. House)

A Scorpio IV. House is always a bit intense. When Mercury is moving through, it adds dynamic energy. If something has been smoldering below the surface it might be a good time to lift the lid and take an honest look at it.

Creativity, Children (5. House)

Mercury in a Scorpio V. House generally likes a bit of edgy fun. Under the circumstances, it may be wise to weigh your risk before tempting fate, though. Mercury in the V. House is a good transit for creative writing as it sharpens the focus and helps you to deeply penetrate a subject matter.

Health, Work, Service (6. House)

When Mercury moves through a Scorpio VI. House, it is a good idea to take extra care of your health and well-being. This transit facilitates adaptive learning that can be tapped as a resource to enhance your inner strength and resilience.

Partnership, Relationship (7. House)

Mercury transiting through a Scorpio VII. House, is potentially most troublesome. The VII. House is about relationships and well, as Facebook would put it – ‘it’s complicated’. Trust vs suspicion is the big issue here. It’s time to take a close look at your relationship.

Shared Assets, Inner Resources (8. House)

When Mercury moves through a Scorpio VIII. House, it highlights the department of resources, both shared and personal. This is a good time to take stock. It can also activate an interest in magical and supernatural matters.

Travel, Study (9. House)

The IX. House is not just about travel, luckily, although Mercury passing through certainly ignites such aspirations. Scorpio in this area of the horoscope quests for a deeper meaning and Mercury moving through may help to connect the dots.

Career, Status (10. House)

Mercury in Scorpio has a bit of the Coyote spirit. Mercury in Scorpio in the X. House is likely to use the opportunity to plot for success. Stay vigilant, watch your back, and make the most of the opportunities that present themselves.

Community, In-Group (11. House)

The XI. House is a bit awkward for Mercury in Scorpio. He doesn’t really feel comfortable in groups unless he can be completely incognito. If he must, he prefers to be in charge and personally control the way things are done. It is very difficult for Mercury here to trust others to do their job.

Spirituality, Transcendence (12. House)

The XII. House is also not the best house for Mercury to travel through, much less in Scorpio. This is a hidden house and all sorts of things can be harbored there. At best, Mercury will turn the mind towards existential topics and the quest for transcendence.
