Mercury is coming home, to Virgo

August 20 – September 5, 2020

Mercury is making an all too brief visit in his own sign of Virgo. In this sign, Mercury is razor-sharp and analytical. In Virgo, Mercury makes full use of his mental powers, and not just for acrobatic’s sake, as he does in Gemini – or for a laugh. Instead, Mercury in Virgo is highly practical and will not allow an idea to stand if it does not pass the fluff test. He separates the wheat from the chaff and discards all that is not actually useful. Embellishment? Who needs it. Mercury in Virgo makes a formidable, even a scary critic. But, you can rely on his judgment and be dead certain that he means what he doesn’t just say something nice in order to flatter you. Compliments for nicety’s sake is not his game.

If you are going to argue with Mercury in Virgo, you’d better have your facts straight.

On the negative side, all that critical appraisal can be a bit depressing. Mercury in Virgo can be a bit of a better-notter. Always cautious, always imagining the worst outcome and always worrying, long before anything has actually happened.

Apart from the intellectual prowess and the emotional fretting, Mercury in Virgo is very concerned with fitness, diet, and health. Of course, he doesn’t just set himself goals and then goes about achieving them. No, Mercury in Virgo first has to study every aspect pertaining to it so he can be sure that he will not just get it right, but perfectly right.

Self-Presentation, Persona (1. House)

Mercury in this section of the chart always brings in a breath of fresh air, and in Virgo, it will be clearing out the mental cobwebs. But, don’t be too harsh on yourself. If you make sure to dot all the ‘i’ s and cross all the ’t’s, you’ll be fine.

Money, Values (2. House)

Mercury passing through this section of the horoscope is likely to be concerned with practical matters, like thriftiness. If they are going to spend money, they will spend it sensibly, like on good quality wholesome foods, yoga classes, or books.

Friends and Kin, Mental Processing (3. House)

This is one of Mercury’s natural houses, so he feels very comfortable there. He can be a bit of a fusspot though in his social interactions and always finds the faults first. But, if you have any mental work to do that requires a great deal of attention to detail, this is a good time for it.

Home and Family (4. House)

Nothing like using Mercury in this section of the chart in Virgo to clean up the house and garden. Have you seen those irritating ‘de-clutter’ self-help books? Well, guess what – Mercury in this house means you have your own personal coach for getting that job done.

Creativity, Children (5. House)

This is usually considered an awkward house to be occupied by Virgo as it seems so counter to the creative impulses of its natural ruler, Leo. But, Virgo can be highly productive here, especially with Mercury passing through. It is just much more detail orientated. Instead of using a broad brush, he uses a very fine pencil, so as to get the detail right.

Health, Work, Service (6. House)

This is the house that naturally corresponds to Virgo and Mercury feels quite at home here. This is a good time to pay attention to your diet, health, and fitness regime. Mercury here is a fitness nut.

Partnership, Relationship (7. House)

This is another difficult place to be occupied by Virgo. Somehow, it is hard to look past the other’s shortcomings. Of course, we all have them. Accepting yourself a bit more may make it easier to accept others the way they are.

Shared Assets, Inner Resources (8. House)

In this house, Mercury can be quite shrewd and calculating. There is no way anyone will get anything by him. He scrutinizes all the details of any deal you may be making. This transit is exacting and perfectionistic.

Travel, Study (9. House)

When Virgo occupies this part of the horoscope mental travel tends to be more exciting than adventurous trips. Enrolling in a class or engaging in some mental discourse is just up his alley. But if you do want to take a trip, you can use this transit to plan every little detail well in advance.

Career, Status (10. House)

In this part of the horoscope, Virgo is a perfectionist. With Mercury moving through it could mean extra wind to get things done, or new opportunities, but it could also be added stress because nothing is ever good enough.  Use the energy to improve your time management and workflow to make the most of this transit.

Community, In-Group (11. House)

If Virgo is in this part of the horoscope and Mercury is moving through it is a good time to organize some group activities. For example, preserving the harvest – many hands make light work 🙂

Spirituality, Transcendence (12. House)

The 12 house is not a very good place for Virgo to occupy, as it can drive itself mad with ruminations about philosophical and metaphysical questions. Mercury moving through does not make that any easier. Healing work is a good field to explore and with Mercury moving through, even more so.
