Astrological Overview for April 2023
March has seen three major astrological events, the Jupiter/Chiron conjunction, Saturn moving into Pisces, and Pluto entering Aquarius for the first time in over 240 years. A quarter of a millennium ago, it was all about social uprisings and revolutions. There is no reason to assume it will be different this time.
April is Aries season, and not just the Sun is frolicking in this fiery sign. Chiron, Jupiter and Mercury are also there, while the Moon and Lilith are in Leo, another fire sign. Only a couple of days ago, on March 30, Venus had joined Uranus in Taurus, causing a bit of furore. The repercussions can still be felt at the beginning of April.
April 1 – 3, 2023
On April 1, Venus semi-squares Mars in Cancer, suggesting a kind of restlessness, irritability and impatience. Mercury forms a semi-sextile with Neptune in Pisces. To ponder the possibilities may be wishful thinking, but the seeds of possibility are sown by the imagination. Venus semi-sextiles Jupiter on April 2, feeling emboldened and hopeful.
April 3 – 6, 2023
By April 3, the energy builds up for the Full Moon. Mercury changes signs, enters Taurus, and squares Pluto as he crosses the cusp. Both Aquarius and Taurus are fixed and stubborn signs. Making an effort to seek compromise is not part of their agenda. A couple of days later, Mercury sextiles Saturn on April 5. Changing perspectives to a higher, more spiritual mindset helps to gain insight if we are not emotionally attached to a particular outcome.
The Full Moon in Libra on April 6 seeks balance. But, the Moon is alone in the element of air, except for Pluto, who has just entered Aquarius but hasn’t even made it through the first degree.
Saturn in Pisces and Mars in Cancer are both uncomfortable in water signs, especially with the Sun, Jupiter, and Chiron meeting in feisty Aries. More about that in the Full Moon post.
April 6 – 10, 2023
The days after the Full Moon are calming down. Venus sextiles Neptune and the Sun casts a semi-sextile to Uranus on April 7. Something unforeseen could be in the wings, but it may well turn out OK, even if not as planned. Mercury sextiles Mars on April 8, bringing domestic issues to the table. Make space to talk about them. The Sun semi-squares Saturn, which often signals frustration or impatience.
April 11 – 15, 2023
On April 11, the energy changes when Venus moves from Taurus into Gemini and forms a trine with Pluto. Gemini is a more light-hearted sign, but the trine to Pluto suggests there is more beneath the surface than meets the eye. The same day, the Sun conjuncts Jupiter, and Mercury semi-squares Neptune. Jupiter and the Sun like to do things big, but what is happening on the sidelines? Is it jealousy? Is it deception?
We don’t know yet, but time will tell.
The unease continues on April 12 when Venus and Chiron form a semi-square, and Venus squares Saturn on April 14. We may wish things were different, but with the north node receiving a semi-sextile from Venus and a sextile from Saturn, we probably are not seeing the whole picture yet.
April 16 – 19, 2023
On April 16, just before the New Moon on April 20, the Sun semi-sextiles Neptune, sparking inspiration to fuel the next phase. The New Moon coincides with a solar eclipse in the last degree of Aries. It appears to be a seminal time.
Saturn trines the South Node and sextiles the North Node – time to wrap up stuff from the past and push for the future.
April 20 – 23, 2023
The Sun and the Moon change signs together, squaring Pluto just as they enter Taurus. Perhaps it is time to let go of preconceived ideas before moving on.
April 24 – 30, 2023
It’s all happening on April 24: Mercury sextiles Mars and semi-sextile Venus, the Sun conjuncts the North Node, and Venus semi-sextiles Mars. A lot of potential and possibilities are opening up. The one we feed is the one that will flourish. The open, exploratory space continues through to the end of the month. A sextile between Sun and Saturn on April 25 suggests a more serious consideration rather than just playing with ideas.
On April 27, Venus semi-sextiles Uranus and semi-squares the North Node, while Mars squares Chiron. Thinking outside the box may initially backfire, but on April 29, Mars sextiles Uranus. Perhaps it just takes a little getting used to a new idea for Mars to get on board.
