Welcoming in a brand-new year!

Here comes your Astrological forecast for January 2022.

Another year, another chance! Everybody longs for what we used to think of as ‘normal life’ to return. Who would have guessed? But here we are, year 3 of the pandemic, and the virus is raging worse than ever. Naturally, we are all wondering what 2022 has in store for us.

Well, one might say, it is written in the stars. So let us take a quick whirlwind tour of ongoing and upcoming celestial events that will mark 2022 as the remarkable year it is bound to be because, in the words of Charles Dickens, …we live in the best of times, and we live in the worst of times…

Transition

At the start of 2022, we find ourselves in an ‘in-between time’.

Jupiter has just moved into Pisces on December 29, 2021, where he will form a conjunction with Neptune on April 12, 2022.

On May 10, 2022, Jupiter changes signs and moves into Aries, where he will stay until the end of October.

Jupiter briefly dips back into Pisces on October 28, 2022, returning to Aries on December 20, 2022, just in time for the Winter Solstice.

Saturn is in the middle of its transit through Aquarius and won’t change signs until March 7, 2023.

Uranus is still moving through Taurus. The square it forms with Saturn remains active for most of the year and gets to within the same degree again in October. Uranus will also conjunct the nodal axis, which retrogrades through Taurus and Scorpio all year.

Neptune will remain in Pisces until 2025.

Pluto continues to drag its heels through the last degrees of Capricorn and won’t change signs until March 2023.

So, as we can see, 2022 is a transition year. We are setting the course for the much more significant changes that will be taking place in 2023.

Overview January 2022

January 1 – 5, 2022

The year starts with a surprise as the Sun trines Uranus on January 1. Perhaps a Uranian idea flashing through your mind will inspire the course of action. The perfectly timed New Moon in Capricorn on January 2, is an excellent opportunity to set your goals and intentions for the year. The semi-sextile to Saturn will help make new habits stick. A great time to affirm commitments. Mercury moves into Aquarius on that same day and semi-sextile Jupiter, inspiring optimism.

On January 5, Venus sextiles Neptune, which offers an opportunity for the artistically inclined. Romance, or in a broader sense, matters of the heart, are infused with fuzzy warmth, despite Venus still being retrograde in Capricorn. A nostalgic moment, perhaps.

But on the next day, Mercury comes along and casts a semi-square to Neptune. That fuzziness gets the cold shower treatment, which is further underscored by the Sun’s challenging semi-square to Neptune on January 7.

January 8 – 14, 2022

But hold on – on January 8, Venus casts a semi-sextile to Mars, the Sun conjuncts Venus on January 9, and then also semi-sextiles Mars. So, there is positive potential, but it needs to be nurtured and given some TLC to succeed. Mercury sextile Chiron on January 10 favours insight and understanding as a first step towards remedying a situation. Although, Venus casts a semi-square to Jupiter on the same day, voicing discontent.

On January 11, the Sun sextiles Neptune while Mars squares it. Neptune is getting worked on from all sides, but the energy is quite dynamic. Perhaps Mars is getting fed up with Neptune’s evasiveness and puts a fire under his butt. Alas, Mercury goes retrograde on January 14, temporarily stalling some of those efforts.

January 15 – 18, 2022

The Sun conjuncts Pluto on January 16. Although this happens every year, it is still a sombre moment. Last year, that day was declared the worst day of the pandemic in the UK – something that could yet repeat this year. This comes on the eve of the Full Moon in Cancer on January 17, when Mercury casts a semi-square to Mars and Venus semi-sextiles Saturn. It looks like a highly charged time. But lashing out is rarely a good way to deal with emotions.

The following days are more integrating, although not exactly smooth. Mercury is sextiling Chiron, prompting us to learn from recent experiences. But Mars first casts a sesquiquadrate to Uranus on January 18, just as Uranus turns direct, and then a semi-sextile to Pluto. This smacks of harsh methods to assert one’s will, but resolute action is sometimes necessary.

January 19 – 23, 2022

The Sun enters Aquarius on January 20, and there are several tricky aspects to negotiate. Mercury, still retrograde, casts a semi-square to Neptune on January 21. Miscommunication is likely to create confusion. On January 22, Mercury semi-sextiles Jupiter, and on January 23, it conjuncts the Sun. Mercury is still retrograde, so this is more about revision, which is also necessary for progress.

January 24 – 31, 2022

Mars enters Capricorn on January 24, a sign in which Mars is very focused and strategic. Mercury retrogrades back into Capricorn on January 26. It looks like there is unfinished business to attend to. The Sun semi-squares Neptune on the same day. This feels decidedly fishy and uncomfortable, no matter whether it manifests as an outright affront, or something more subversive.

The final days of January are a bit of a cliffhanger. The Sun sextile Chiron on January 29, indicating a readiness to deal with Chiron issues (likely very literally of a medical in nature). On the same day, Mercury joins Pluto, a very uncompromising aspect not conducive to win-win negotiations. But Uranus hits back on January 30, when the Sun squares it.

The month ends on a more conciliatory note. The Sun semi-sextiling Venus is perhaps attempting to smooth out recent ruffles.
