Jupiter begins his year-long journey through Aquarius
- December 19, 2020 – May 13, 2021
- July 28, 2020 – December 29, 2021
Just two days after Saturn takes up residence in Aquarius, Jupiter follows suit. Jupiter spends approximately 1 year in each sign, although due to the retro motion, it is not a continuous stint. Jupiter enters Aquarius on December 19, 2020, and will have sprinted through the entire sign by May 13, 2021! However, he then goes retrograde on June 20, 2021, and slides back into Aquarius on July 28, 2021. He turns direct again on October 18, 2021, and completes his journey through Aquarius on December 29, 2021.
Jupiter, a harbinger of hope
It seems quite pertinent that Jupiter, a planet that signifies hope and ‘increase’ in the broadest sense, enters social Aquarius just as the prospect of an effective vaccine on the horizon inspires hope: with a bit of luck the worst is over and humanity can look forward not only to being more sociable again, but also to health and wealth, or at least a bit more stability on which to rebuild our lives. So many people have suffered so badly during this last year, not least from the lack of human contact and connection. Interestingly, hope comes in the form of a novel vaccine, an innovative advance of medical technology. Aquarius signifies scientific and technological advances.
Whether the vaccine will be as effective as is hoped remains to be seen. But at this point in time, hope (Jupiter) is what really matters.
Jupiter in Aquarius championing the humanitarian cause
Jupiter in Aquarius is quite idealistic and concerned with questions about how to improve the human condition, how to make things fairer, and bring improvement to all. But, being larger than life, there is a tendency to totally overshoot the mark. Reality is rarely as perfect as Jupiter in Aquarius envisions it.
The downside
The dark side of Aquarius is the normative social pressure. The idea that what is good for one group of people must be good for all. When masses of people identify with a group ideal there is little room for individuality. The mind of the masses exerts a huge social pressure to conform, which is actually quite restrictive, even as it campaigns for ideals such as freedom. Aquarius and its opposite sign, Leo are forever trying to find the right balance between individual freedom and collective rights and rules in the interest of society as a whole.
